After the symphony, the concerto form is probably the most recognised of classical music. The concerto is a work for solo instrument accompanied by an orchestra. The focus being on the interplay between the soloist and the orchestra.

Concertos have been written for almost every instrument, but the common ones are for piano, violin, cello and trumpet.
